Willmar police find man shot in street Tuesday morning

A Willmar man was found shot in the street Tuesday morning in southeast Willmar, and another Willmar man found holding a handgun is in custody.

WILLMAR — A 25-year-old man was shot Tuesday morning in southeast Willmar, and police found him lying in the street.

Willmar police received a call at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday of shots fired in the 1300 block of Dana Drive Southeast and arrived to find two male parties in the street. The alleged victim was lying on the road with a gunshot wound, and the alleged 26-year-old male suspect was holding a handgun but immediately surrendered when police arrived, according to a news release from the Willmar Police Department.

Both men are from Willmar, but police are not yet releasing names while the case remains under investigation, said Willmar Police Capt. Michael Anderson.

The wounded man was transported to the Carris Health — Rice Memorial Hospital emergency room in Willmar, and his status is unknown, police said.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is being held at the Kandiyohi County Jail.
