WILLMAR -- The Willmar School Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the board room on the first floor of the Willmar Education and Arts Center.

The board will listen to public comments related to items on the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Those who want to comment on issues that are not on Monday's agenda may do so at the end of the meeting.

The board is scheduled to expand its discussion of ways to cut $2 million from the 2010-11 budget.

The board looked at a list of $2.2 million in possible cuts this week but asked administrators to provide more options.

The largest single reduction is a return to half-time kindergarten classes, a savings of $450,000. The district has offered all day everyday kindergarten since fall 2005.

The state does not provide as much aid for each kindergarten students as it does for elementary students, so the district has paid the additional cost of providing full-time kindergarten for students.

Board members raised questions about other possible cuts and asked for more information about some of the issues already on the list. That information is to be provided at the board meeting Monday.
