WILLMAR -- The Willmar School Board meeting cancelled because of weather on Jan. 25 will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Willmar Education and Arts Center, 611 Fifth St. S.W.

The board will discuss for the first time a list of potential budget cuts totaling $2 million.

The budget reductions are the only discussion item listed on the agenda at the workshop meeting. The board will discuss the cuts at meetings in February before making final decisions in March.

School administrators have been working to develop the list for the past two months. It will not be available to the public until the meeting on Monday.

A year ago, the district cut $2.8 million from its operating budget of about $40 million. That included the reorganization of much of the district's schools and the delay of major technology and curriculum purchases.

This year, Superintendent Jerry Kjergaard has said the district needs to cut at least $1.4 million from the budget, but it could be as much as $3 million, depending on how state budget problems affect school districts.
