Willmar sends 5 to state swim meet

WILLMAR -- In a super-heated day, seven pool records were rewritten on the final day of the girls Section 3A Swimming and Diving championships held at the Willmar Senior High School.

WILLMAR -- In a super-heated day, seven pool records were rewritten on the final day of the girls Section 3A Swimming and Diving championships held at the Willmar Senior High School.

Hutchinson's Audrey Kumm, just a freshman, broke the pool record in the 200-individual medley by an astonishing five seconds. That kind of performance help the Tigers take home the team trophy.

The host Cardinals finishing fourth. Both the 200-freesyle and 400-free relays earned state berths. Relay members Sarah Hund and Alissa Tinklenberg also qualified in two events each. Sarah Frank, Aleasha Blokzyl and Emily Zondervan advance either on one or both relays.

Litchfield's Molly Hansvick qualified in diving.

Two defending Class A state champions will return to the state meet: Jessica Stanchfield of Orono in diving and Megan Geyen of Watertown-Mayer/Delano in the 50 free.

The state meet runs Thursday through Saturday at the University of Minnesota.
