WILLMAR -- Filing opens on Aug. 26 for four terms on the Willmar School Board.

The terms of Wayne Lenzmeier, Shawn Mueske, Eric Roberts and Sandi Unger will expire at the end of the year. The election to fill the seats will be held on Nov. 4.

At its Monday meeting, the School Board adopted a resolution outlining the procedure for filing for office and conducting the election.

Those interested in filing will have from Aug. 26 through 5 p.m. Sept. 9 to file an affidavit of candidacy in the district office, 611 Fifth St. S.W., Willmar.

The filing fee is $2.

Eligible candidates must be 21 years old before assuming office, must have been a resident of the School District for 30 days before the general election and must not be running for another office in the same election.

As the School Board has chosen to have no primary, all candidates who file for office will be included on one general election ballot. Those with the top four vote totals will be elected to the School Board and take office in January.

The board voted to send a grievance regarding teacher contract language to binding arbitration.

The grievance involves several Early Childhood Family Education teachers who contend that their teaching schedules do not provide them with the preparation time guaranteed in their contract.

The grievance has gone through several stages already without a resolution, said Human Resources Director Bill Busta.

"It comes down to interpretation of the language," he said. "Both sides want to resolve it."
