LONG PRAIRIE -- The Willmar Cardinals jumped up on Long Prairie-Grey Eagles and went on to a 3-1 non-conference victory.
The Section 6A win halted a four-game losing streak by Willmar (3-5). LPGE (5-3) was coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to Detroit Lakes.
Defenseman Kelsey Swanson got her first goal of the season at 7:36 of the first period. A steal and sharp passes by Allie Sweep and Jennie Mattison set it up.
Chelsey Wierschem made it 2-0 at 16:39 of the first period by scoring shorthanded on a breakaway.
Taylor Sandberg made it 3-0 with four minutes left in the second, a power play assisted by Ali Sing and Carlie Freese.

Goalie Amanda Croonquist made 16 stops in her varsity debut. Willmar had 35 shots on goal.
