WILLMAR -- Martin William Danielson, 16, of Willmar, was sentenced Thursday to 24 months in prison for a felony charge of conspiracy to commit a robbery and sentenced to one year and one day for conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery for his role in the March kidnapping and beating of a man for drug money. Both sentences were stayed.

The conditions of Danielson's sentence, set by Judge Michael J. Thompson, include that the juvenile spend 150 days in Prairie Lakes Detention Center, enter and complete residential treatment at Woodland Academy and abide by supervised probation until he is 21 years old.

Additional conditions include that Danielson submit to random drug testing, use no alcohol or drugs, attend victim offender mediation, write a written apology and serve 100 hours of community service. He must also register as a predatory offender and have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.

The sentence reflected convictions on two of the eight felony charges against Danielson for the March 21 kidnapping of a man because the man's sister owned $1,200 in drug money. As part of a plea agreement reached in July, the other six charges were dismissed.

Danielson was one of four people charged in the incident, in which the man was lured to a Willmar apartment, beaten, bound and blindfolded and then dumped in a field outside of town. He said he ran with the blindfold still on, heard a gunshot and continued to run. He was picked up around 5:20 a.m. by a Willmar police officer.

Danielson's sister, Melanie Joy Danielson, was sentenced in July for her role in the kidnapping. Timmothy James Hanson, 20, of Cosmos, was sentenced last week to 45 months in prison. The fourth defendant is Tyler Loren Curtis, 18, of Willmar. His case is still proceeding through the court system.
