WILLMAR -- Willmar will host a regional summit on Friday to address how the state can prepare for the coming wave of aging Minnesotans.

The summit, one in a statewide series by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Willmar Conference Center. An estimated 100 people are expected to attend.

Participants will receive an overview of "Blueprint for 2010," a plan to prepare Minnesota for the dramatic demographic shifts that will begin in 2011, when the first baby boomers turn 65. The program will also highlight local organizations that have already taken steps to prepare for this shift.

The overall initiative, known as Project 2010, seeks to heighten the sense of urgency to transform policies, infrastructures and services to address the coming age wave.

State officials especially encourage individuals, community leaders, businesses, providers and elected officials to take action.
