The Ice Bucket Challenge has swept the nation, and it's no different here in west central Minnesota. People in the Willmar area have stepped up to the challenge, which is a fundraiser for the ALS Association, a national nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of ALS research, public awareness and patient care. ALS which stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a.k.a Lou Gehrig's Disease. It's a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerves cells in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in a loss of motor function, according to the www.als.org.
