Willmar's Brown, Ellingson/Marcus lose, but still advance to Section 8AA meet

ST. CLOUD -- In matches for Section 8AA seeding purposes, Willmar tennis players succumbed in sub-section matches Friday at Gold's Gym.

Andrea Brown fell to Aaryn Anderson 1-6, 5-7 in singles action in the Section 8AA-South championship.

After a slow start against the No.1-seeded Anderson, Brown played well in the second set.

In doubles, Willmar's Allie Ellingson and Leslie Marcus lost a three-set thriller in the third-place match to Rocori's Alyse Gielson and Lindsey Schmidt, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7).

Brown and Ellingson/Marcus advance to the section meet wednesday at Gold's Gym.

Willmar will open the Section 8AA team tournament against Bemidji at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Gold's Gym. St. Cloud Tech and Thief River Falls meet in the other semifinal with the winners squaring off at 8 p.m.
