CLARKFIELD -- Winnie Jans, 84, of Clarkfield died Wednesday at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital after a battle with cancer.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo. Burial will be at Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
She was born Nov. 6, 1920, in Archer, Iowa, to Ralph and Florence (Hector) Vander Veen. She grew up near Melvin, Iowa. She worked as a housekeeper at a funeral home in Sheldon, Iowa.

She married Jake Jans on Oct. 4, 1943, near Melvin, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1952, when they purchased a farm near Boyd. They farmed for 37 years. They retired in 1987 and moved to Clarkfield.
She was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo and active in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her children: Jake (and Carolyn) Jans, Harold (and Rita) Jans, Rodney (and Martha) Jans, all of Montevideo, Faye (and Stan) Harms of Clara City, Larry (and Sue) Jans of Clarkfield; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Hilda Oltman of Parkersburg, Iowa, Betty Zevenbergen of Little Rock, Iowa, Rose (and Harold) Sankey of Sioux Falls, S.D., Klaas (and Margaret) Vander Veen of Ocheyedan, Iowa, and Bernard Vander Veen of Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; and one brother.
