Winter isn’t over, up to foot of snow, sleet, rain coming

WILLMAR -- Portions of southern and central Minnesota could get up to a foot of snow, plus freezing rain and sleet, from a winter storm that will start early Tuesday morning.

WILLMAR - Portions of southern and central Minnesota could get up to a foot of snow, plus freezing rain and sleet, from a winter storm that will start early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday for an area from Yellow Medicine County east to McLeod County and northeast to the arrowhead region of the state and into northwest Wisconsin.

The Weather Service expects the snow to start early Tuesday morning and become heavy at times before tapering off late Tuesday night.

The local forecast for Willmar calls for a high of 44 degrees today, with freezing rain and sleet before 11 a.m. The snow is expected to begin around 7 a.m. Tuesday, with a total of 4 to 10 inches expected locally by Tuesday night.

Blustery winds are also expected, with gusts to 30 mph Tuesday night.
