Wrestling: Minnewaska wins Big Ole Invitational

ALEXANDRIA -- Minnewaska Area's three champions and three runners-up gave the Lakers enough points to edge two other teams for the Big Ole Invitational title Saturday.

ALEXANDRIA -- Minnewaska Area's three champions and three runners-up gave the Lakers enough points to edge two other teams for the Big Ole Invitational title Saturday.

The Lakers collected 177½ points, followed by Moorhead with 173 and Wadena-Deer Creek with 172½. Willmar took seventh (81½) and Morris/Hancock eighth (57).

Jon Tatro at 119 pounds, Trevor Larson at 145 and Alan Lutterman at 215 captured titles for the Lakers. All three won at least one match by fall, with Larson collecting three.

Justin Frederick (112), Sam Goracke (140) and Colin Cihlar (152) all finished in second place.

Willmar's Trent Molacek finished second in the 160-pound bracket, losing to Jay Thoreson, the No. 1 wrestler in Class AAA. Nick Braun (112), Brandt Haglund (125) and Martin Munoz (171) took third.

Jake Nohl took second at 145 pounds to lead Morris/Hancock.

Paynesville Duals

PAYNESVILLE --BOLD/BLH overcame a 21-17 deficit by winning the last five matches to top Grand Rapids 41-21 for third place at the Paynesville Duals.

The Warriors picked up decisions from Mark and Kyle Pietig and 160 and 171 pounds, respectively, then Zach Kopel (189), Brian Hagen (215) and Ben Aaseth (275) won their matches by fall.

The host Bulldogs finished with a 41-36 win over Watertown-Mayer for fifth place. Milaca won the title, beating Perham 33-19.

Martin CW Invite

SHERBURN -- Lac qui Parle Valley had four individual champions Saturday as the Eagles finished second in the Martin County Wetst Invite.

Colton Kanstrup at 119 pounds, Zach Zinda at 125, Matt Brehmer at 152 and Derek Miller at 275 all won their weight class for LQPV. Miller went 2-1 -- as did two other wrestlers-- but 275 had a round-robin format and Miller won on criteria by having the most pins (two).

The Eagles also got a second-place finish from Brett Tostenson at 130 and a third-place finish from Nick Hanen at 112.
