ST. CLOUD -- Willmar flexed its muscles Thursday night and registered a 47-18 rout of St. Cloud Tech in a Central Lakes Conference match.
Willmar had two newcomers in the lineup and both came away with wins. Alex Johannaes, a seventh-grader, earned a 7-2 win at 103 pounds in his varsity debut and Cody Milhussen, an eighth-grader, won 15-10 at 130 pounds.
"That was a big plus for us having those two young kids step in for us and win," said Willmar coach Tom Beyer. "We had several good performances from other kids and we wrestled as well as we have all season. But the highlight had to be those two new kids competing that well in a conference match."
After Johannes' win, Willmar (2-0, 2-1) strung together six straight more wins for a 29-0 lead.
During that stretch, Adam Fagerstrom won a decision at 119, Erik Borgos and Nick Braun had consecutive pins at 119 and 125, respectively, Milhussen had his decision and Brandt Haglund and Nick Dahlke had consecutive major decisions at 135 and 140, respectively.
