WILLMAR -- Frank Yanish has filed for the office of mayor of Willmar in the November general election. Yanish will face incumbent Mayor Les Heitke who has filed for re-election.
The term of the office of mayor and city council member is four years.
Yanish grew up in Annandale and worked as a sales representative in the food industry for 25 years. For the past 19 years, he and his wife, Lorna, have been owners and operators of Central Tire and Auto of Willmar.
Yanish served six years on the Willmar Planning Commission and served three years as commission chairperson. Yanish is a member of Church of St. Mary and founded Flyaway Promotions, which promotes southern gospel music.
Fagerlie is completing 18 years on the City Council and has filed for re-election to the council from Ward 3. Fagerlie was first elected from Ward 4 in 1992 and was re-elected in 1996. He moved to Ward 3, was elected in 1998, and was re-elected in 2002 and in 2006.

Fagerlie has been vice chair of the Finance Committee for 16 years, is vice chair of the Community Development Committee, serves on the Public Works/Safety Committee, and is former chair of the Labor Relations Committee.
He is former chair of the Kandiyohi Transit System, represents the council on the KAT Board and on the Community Education and Recreation Board, and is a member of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Willmar. He is a licensed real estate appraiser and has owned Fagerlie Appraisal since 1991.
The deadline for filing affidavits of candidacy at Willmar City Offices is 5 p.m. June 1.
