WILLMAR — Kandiyohi and neighboring counties continued to report single-digit increases in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with the exception of Stearns County, where 20 new cases were reported and the confirmed county total rose by 15.

New cases and confirmed county totals do not necessarily match each day as county of residence is confirmed during the case interview after a positive test.

Kandiyohi County saw four new cases, and the total confirmed cases among residents of the county has risen to 898, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Meeker, Pope, Renville, and Yellow Medicine counties all reported new cases, while Redwood and Swift counties did not see any new cases. Big Stone, Meeker, Pope and Renville counties each reported three new cases, Chippewa had seven, Lac qui Parle had one, and Yellow Medicine reported two.

Statewide there are 513 new cases for a total of 85,813 with 9,303 of them being health care workers.

There were seven additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 1,933.

Most of the deaths, 1,402 have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 1,542 of the deaths were 70 years or older.

Statewide, there are 244 COVID patients currently in hospitals, 136 of them being treated in ICUs.

The Minnesota Department of Health is also reporting that 79,583 of the state's reported positive cases no longer need to self-isolate.

So far in Minnesota, there have been approximately 1,743,611 completed tests of approximately 1,252,392 people since Jan. 20.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

The current number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone County: 59, up 3

  • Chippewa County: 180, up 7

  • Kandiyohi County: 898, up 5

  • Lac qui Parle County: 33, up 1

  • Meeker County: 152, up 3

  • Pope County: 78, up 4

  • Redwood County: 88

  • Renville County: 109, up 2

  • Stearns County: 3,590, up 15

  • Swift County: 96

  • Yellow Medicine County: 135, up 1
