WILLMAR — There were 38 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Kandiyohi County in Thursday's state report, part of a total of more than 260 new cases reported in the area.

Three deaths were reported in the area. One person in Redwood County and one person in Stearns county died in the 90-94 age range. One person in Stearns County died in the 85-89 age range.

Stearns County saw the biggest jump in new cases, with 171 new cases reported. Lac qui Parle reported no new cases.

Around the area, Swift county reported 13 new cases; Meeker County, 11; Renville County, 10; Big Stone County, six; Chippewa, Redwood and Yellow Medicine counties, four each; and Pope County, three.

Statewide there were 2,849 newly reported confirmed cases and 23 newly reported probable cases.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 142,311, which includes 141,789 confirmed and 522 probable cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 14,095 of them are health care workers.

There were 32 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 2,404 deaths from confirmed cases and 15 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 1,689, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 1,936 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The Minnesota Department of Health is also reporting that 124,379 of the state's reported positive cases no longer need to self-isolate.

So far in Minnesota, there have been approximately 2,770,450 completed tests, including 2,742,869 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and 27,581 antigen tests. And approximately 1,819,873 people have been tested since Jan. 20.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

The current number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone County: 159
  • Chippewa County: 472, 1 probable
  • Kandiyohi County: 1,820, 1 probable
  • Lac qui Parle County: 145
  • Meeker County: 359
  • Pope County: 168
  • Redwood County: 299
  • Renville County: 266, 6 probable
  • Stearns County: 6,201, 54 probable
  • Swift County: 225

  • Yellow Medicine County: 295, 3 probable
