WILLMAR — There were 115 new confirmed cases and six probable cases of COVID-19 reported in Kandiyohi County in Saturday's state report.

Those cases are part of a total 452 confirmed cases and 32 probable cases reported in 11 west central Minnesota counties tracked by the West Central Tribune.

Stearns County reported the highest number of cases with 188 confirmed and 15 probable cases. Other counties reported new cases in the single or double digits: 35 confirmed and two probable cases in Redwood County; 32 confirmed cases in Meeker County; 27 confirmed and five probable cases in Renville County; 17 confirmed cases in Chippewa County; nine confirmed and three probable cases in Yellow Medicine County; ten confirmed and one probable cases in Swift County; nine confirmed cases in Pope County; eight confirmed cases in Lac qui Parle County; and two confirmed cases in Big Stone County.

Statewide there were 5,865 newly reported confirmed cases and 400 newly reported probable cases.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 262,952, which includes 258,574 confirmed and 4,378 probable cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 20,018 of them are health care workers.

The Minnesota Department of Health provides a breakdown of how many cases are classified as “confirmed” through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and how many cases are deemed “probable” through antigen testing.


The area reported six deaths. Redwood County reported one death of a person in the 80-84 age range. Renville reported a death in the 75-79 age range. Stearns County reported the death of three people, one each in the 75-79, 80-84 and 85-89 age ranges. Yellow Medicine reported the death of a person in the 70-74 age range.

Statewide, there were 51 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 3,141 deaths from confirmed cases and 60 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 2,192, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 2,616 of the deaths were 70 years or older.

The Minnesota Department of Health is also reporting that 211,513 of the state's reported positive cases no longer need to self-isolate.

So far in Minnesota, there have been approximately 3,712,110 completed tests, including 3,640,177 PCR tests and 71,933 antigen tests. And approximately 2,277,980 people have been tested since Jan. 20.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

The current number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone County: 261, 1 probable
  • Chippewa County: 718, 3 probable
  • Kandiyohi County: 3,283, 15 probable
  • Lac qui Parle County: 300, 3 probable
  • Meeker County: 956, 4 probable
  • Pope County: 443
  • Redwood County: 720, 4 probable

  • Renville County: 630, 22 probable
  • Stearns County: 11,532, 263 probable
  • Swift County: 466, 2 probable
  • Yellow Medicine County: 502, 18 probable
