WILLMAR — There were 80 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Kandiyohi County in Sunday's state report.

Those 78 confirmed and two probable cases were part of a total in the region of 498 confirmed cases and 12 probable cases.

Statewide there were 6,934 newly reported confirmed cases and 285 newly reported probable cases.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 270,157, which includes 265,497 confirmed and 4,660 probable cases.

One death was reported in each Kandiyohi and Stearns counties, each a person in the 85-89 age range. The death of a person in the 90-94 age range was reported in Yellow Medicine County.

Stearns County had the highest number of of new cases with 202 confirmed and six probable. Other counties reported increases mostly in the double digits: 51 in Meeker County, 34 and 2 probable in Renville County; 31 and 2 probable in Yellow Medicine County; 28 in Redwood County; 22 in Chippewa County; 19 in Pope County; 15 in Swift County; and nine each in Big Stone and Lac qui Parle County.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 20,298 of them are health care workers.

The Minnesota Department of Health provides a breakdown of how many cases are classified as “confirmed” through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and how many cases are deemed “probable” through antigen testing.

There were a total of 40 additional deaths statewide attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 3,181 deaths from confirmed cases and 60 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 2,214, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 2,652 of the people who died were 70 or older.

The Minnesota Department of Health is also reporting that 219,720 of the state's reported positive cases no longer need to self-isolate.

So far in Minnesota, there have been approximately 3,779,834 completed tests, including 3,700,343 PCR tests and 79,491antigen tests. And approximately 2,314,094 people have been tested since Jan. 20.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

The current number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone County: 270, 1 probable
  • Chippewa County: 740, 3 probable
  • Kandiyohi County: 3,361, 15 probable
  • Lac qui Parle County: 309, 3 probable

  • Meeker County: 1,007, 4 probable
  • Pope County: 462
  • Redwood County: 747, 4 probable
  • Renville County: 664, 24 probable
  • Stearns County: 11,734, 269 probable
  • Swift County: 481, 2 probable
  • Yellow Medicine County: 533, 6 probable
