WILLMAR — The sixty-ninth COVID-19 death was reported in Kandiyohi County on Sunday, an individual in their late 70s.

There was also another 89 confirmed cases of the virus in the 11 counties being followed by the West Central Tribune, based on Sunday's state situation report from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Stearns County had 48 confirmed and two probable cases and Meeker County added 14 confirmed and one probable.

Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

The other counties reported single digit increases, with Lac qui Parle County adding no additional cases to its total. New confirmed cases included seven in Pope County, five in Kandiyohi County, four in Yellow Medicine County, three each in Redwood and Renville counties, two in Chippewa and Swift counties and one in Big Stone County. Redwood County also had one probable case.

Statewide there were 1,942 newly reported confirmed cases and 223 newly reported probable cases.


That brings the state's cumulative total to 436,572, which includes 419,923 confirmed and 16,649 probable cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 33,921 of them are health care workers.

There were 44 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 5,506 deaths from confirmed cases and 201 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 3,653, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,733 of the deaths were 70 years or older.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

  • Big Stone County: 441 confirmed, 9 probable; 3 deaths
  • Chippewa County: 1,269 confirmed, 35 probable; 31 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 5,426 confirmed, 51 probable; 69 deaths

  • Lac qui Parle County: 592 confirmed, 53 probable; 16 deaths
  • Meeker County: 1,928 confirmed, 29 probable; 33 deaths
  • Pope County: 723 confirmed, 8 probable, 5 deaths
  • Redwood County: 1,329 confirmed, 31 probable; 27 deaths
  • Renville County: 1,299 confirmed, 51 probable; 39 deaths
  • Stearns County: 16,984 confirmed, 564 probable; 179 deaths
  • Swift County: 798 confirmed, 22 probable, 17 deaths
  • Yellow Medicine County: 854 confirmed, 65probable, 14 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.

As of Sunday’s report, 132,280 doses have been administered statewide.

According to the figures available Sunday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone: 312

  • Chippewa: 360

  • Kandiyohi: 779

  • Lac qui Parle: 312

  • Meeker: 420

  • Pope: 453

  • Redwood: 293

  • Renville: 429

  • Stearns: 3,018

  • Swift: 257

  • Yellow Medicine: 379

The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
