WILLMAR — Reflecting lower statewide numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Monday's report, there were no deaths and just a handful of cases reported in west central Minnesota.
Stearns County had the highest number of COVID cases in the region, with 18 confirmed cases and three probable cases.
Kandiyohi County had four confirmed cases and all other area counties reported one or two new cases. There were two confirmed cases each in Meeker and Redwood counties. Chippewa, Pope, Renville and Yellow Medicine counties had one confirmed case each.
According to the Monday report from the Minnesota Department of Health, there were four deaths reported in the state and 980 new cases, including 792 confirmed cases and 188 probable cases.
Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 437,552, which includes 420,716 confirmed and 16,836 probable cases.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 34,004 of them are health care workers.
There are now 5,711 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the state, including 5,509 deaths from confirmed cases and 202 from probable cases.
Most of the deaths, 3,655, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,737 of the deaths were 70 years or older.
The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
Big Stone County: 441 confirmed, 9 probable; 3 deaths
Chippewa County: 1,269 confirmed, 35 probable; 31 deaths
Kandiyohi County: 5,430 confirmed, 51 probable; 69 deaths
Lac qui Parle County: 593 confirmed, 53 probable; 16 deaths
Meeker County: 1,930 confirmed, 29 probable; 33 deaths
Pope County: 724 confirmed, 8 probable, 5 deaths
Redwood County: 1,331 confirmed, 31 probable; 27 deaths
Renville County: 1,300 confirmed, 51 probable; 39 deaths
Stearns County: 17,001 confirmed, 567 probable; 179 deaths
Swift County: 798 confirmed, 22 probable, 17 deaths
Yellow Medicine County: 855 confirmed, 65 probable, 14 deaths
The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.
As of Monday’s report, 147,645 doses have been administered statewide.
According to the figures available Monday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 363
Lac qui Parle: 313
Yellow Medicine: 401
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
