WILLMAR — COVID-19 cases in the area continued on a similar pace Thursday, with the 11 counties in this area reporting 70 newly confirmed cases, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Stearns County reported four deaths, two in the 80-84 age range and one each in the 85-89 and 90-94 age ranges. No other area deaths were reported Thursday.
On Thursday's report, Stearns County reported 33 confirmed cases, four probable; Redwood County reported 13 confirmed cases; Kandiyohi County reported 10 confirmed cases; Renville County reported five confirmed cases; Meeker County reported four confirmed cases, one probable; Swift County reported two confirmed cases, one probable; Pope and Yellow Medicine counties each reported one confirmed case and one probable; Lac qui Parle reported one confirmed case.
Big Stone and Chippewa Counties did not report any new cases Thursday.
Statewide there were 1,369 newly reported confirmed cases and 229 newly reported probable cases. Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 441,935, which includes 424,584 confirmed and 17,351 probable cases.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 34,437 of them are health care workers.
There were 43 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 5,606 deaths from confirmed cases and 211 from probable cases.
Of the deaths, 3,716 have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,823 of the deaths were 70 years or older.
The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
- Big Stone County: 442 confirmed, 9 probable; 3 deaths
- Chippewa County: 1,270 confirmed, 36 probable; 32 deaths
- Kandiyohi County: 5,459 confirmed, 51 probable; 69 deaths
- Lac qui Parle County: 598 confirmed, 54 probable; 16 deaths
- Meeker County: 1,944 confirmed, 30 probable; 33 deaths
- Pope County: 726 confirmed, 9 probable; 5 deaths
- Redwood County: 1,353 confirmed, 32 probable; 27 deaths
- Renville County: 1,310 confirmed, 51 probable; 39 deaths
- Stearns County: 17,099 confirmed, 587 probable; 184 deaths
- Swift County: 803 confirmed, 23 probable; 17 deaths
- Yellow Medicine County: 857 confirmed, 68 probable; 14 deaths
The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.
As of Thursday’s report, 153,332 people have received one dose and 15,082 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.
According to the figures available Thursday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 364
Lac qui Parle: 356
Yellow Medicine: 449
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
