WILLMAR — Two deaths related to COVID-19 were reported in Kandiyohi County in Friday's state report.

One person who died was in the 60-64 age category, and one was in the 80-84 age category.

Area counties reported a total of 68 confirmed and probable cases in the daily Minnesota Department of Health update.

The largest number of new cases was in Stearns County with 36 confirmed and five probable. All other counties reported new cases in the single digits. Other counties and cases reported include Meeker, eight confirmed; Kandiyohi, five confirmed; Swift, four confirmed; Redwood, three confirmed; Renville, two confirmed; Lac qui Parle, one confirmed and one probable; Big Stone, Chippewa and Yellow Medicine, one confirmed in each county. Pope County reported no new cases.

Statewide there were 1,413 newly reported confirmed cases and 227 newly reported probable cases. Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 443,562, which includes 425,985 confirmed and 17,577 probable cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 34,594 of them are health care workers.

There were 33 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 5,637 deaths from confirmed cases and 213 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 3,734, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,852 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

  • Big Stone County: 443 confirmed, 9 probable; 3 deaths
  • Chippewa County: 1,271 confirmed, 36 probable; 32 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 5,464 confirmed, 51 probable; 71 deaths

  • Lac qui Parle County: 599 confirmed, 55 probable; 16 deaths
  • Meeker County: 1,952 confirmed, 30 probable; 33 deaths
  • Pope County: 726 confirmed, 9 probable, 5 deaths
  • Redwood County: 1,356 confirmed, 32 probable; 27 deaths
  • Renville County: 1,312 confirmed, 51 probable; 39 deaths
  • Stearns County: 17,136 confirmed, 592 probable; 184 deaths
  • Swift County: 807 confirmed, 23 probable, 17 deaths
  • Yellow Medicine County: 858 confirmed, 68 probable, 14 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.

As of Friday’s report, 187,074 doses have been administered statewide. The data are updated at 11 a.m. weekdays, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.

According to the figures available Friday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone: 408

  • Chippewa: 443

  • Kandiyohi: 1,269

  • Lac qui Parle: 370

  • Meeker: 536

  • Pope: 488

  • Redwood: 495

  • Renville: 648

  • Stearns: 4,014

  • Swift: 352

  • Yellow Medicine: 549
