WILLMAR — Two deaths and nearly 70 new COVID-19 cases were reported in west central Minnesota in Sunday's Minnesota Department of Health update.
The people who died were both in Stearns County. One person was in the 60-64 age range, and the other was in the 75-79 age range.
Among the 11 counties tracked by the West Central Tribune, Stearns County reported the most new cases, with 34 confirmed and four probable. Other counties reported new cases in the single digits — Meeker, seven confirmed; Renville, six confirmed; Kandiyohi, three confirmed and three probable; Redwood, three confirmed; Yellow Medicine, two confirmed; Pope, one confirmed and one probable; Chippewa, Lac qui Parle and Swift, one confirmed each; and Big Stone, one probable.
Statewide there were 1,224 newly reported confirmed cases and 140 newly reported probable cases. Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 446,380, which includes 428,519 confirmed and 17,861 probable cases.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 34,819 of them are health care workers.
There were 40 additional deaths in the state attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 5,710 deaths from confirmed cases and 217 from probable cases.
Most of the deaths, 3,779, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,917 of the people who have died were 70 or older.
The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
- Big Stone County: 445 confirmed, 10 probable; 3 deaths
- Chippewa County: 1,273 confirmed, 36 probable; 32 deaths
Kandiyohi County:5,480 confirmed, 54 probable; 71 deaths
- Lac qui Parle County: 602 confirmed, 55 probable; 16 deaths
- Meeker County: 1,962 confirmed, 30 probable; 33 deaths
- Pope County: 727 confirmed, 10 probable, 5 deaths
- Redwood County: 1,363 confirmed, 32 probable; 27 deaths
- Renville County: 1,320 confirmed, 51 probable; 39 deaths
- Stearns County: 17,210 confirmed, 603 probable; 187 deaths
- Swift County: 808 confirmed, 23 probable, 18 deaths
- Yellow Medicine County: 866 confirmed, 69 probable, 14 deaths
The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.
As of Sunday’s report, 184,943 people have received one dose and 35,800 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.
According to the figures available Sunday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 473
Lac qui Parle: 398
Yellow Medicine: 775
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
