WILLMAR — COVID-19 numbers inched upward in the state as well as this area on Wednesday, according to the daily update by the Minnesota Department of Health.

The state reported 1,013 newly confirmed cases and 34 deaths.

The 11 counties the West Central Tribune is tracking reported three deaths and 60 newly confirmed and 11 new probable cases on Wednesday.

Renville County reported the death of an individual in the 65-69 age category. Stearns County reported the death of an individual in the 70-74 age category. Yellow Medicine County reported the death of an individual in the 80-84 age category.

Stearns County reported 42 new confirmed cases and 10 new probable cases, bringing its total since the pandemic began to 17,305. Kandiyohi County reported five new confirmed cases. Chippewa, Meeker and Pope counties each reported three new confirmed cases. Big Stone reported two new confirmed cases and one new probable case. Redwood and Swift counties each reported one new case. Lac qui Parle, Renville and Yellow Medicine counties reported no new cases.

Statewide there were 1,013 newly reported confirmed cases and 224 newly reported probable cases, for a total of 1,237 new cases. Probable cases are based on antigen testing. Confirmed cases are based on polymerase chain reaction tests.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 449,492, which includes 431,238 confirmed and 18,254 probable cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 35,102 of them are health care workers.

There were 34 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 5,756 deaths from confirmed cases and 223 from probable cases.

Most of the deaths, 3,810, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 4,960 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

  • Big Stone County: 449 confirmed, 11 probable; 3 deaths
  • Chippewa County: 1,279 confirmed, 37 probable; 32 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 5,494 confirmed, 54 probable; 71 deaths

  • Lac qui Parle County: 602 confirmed, 55 probable; 16 deaths
  • Meeker County: 1,970 confirmed, 30 probable; 33 deaths
  • Pope County: 731 confirmed, 10 probable, 5 deaths
  • Redwood County: 1,366 confirmed, 32 probable; 27 deaths
  • Renville County: 1,323 confirmed, 52 probable; 40 deaths
  • Stearns County: 17,305 confirmed, 617 probable; 188 deaths
  • Swift County: 812 confirmed, 23 probable, 18 deaths
  • Yellow Medicine County: 868 confirmed, 69 probable, 15 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. Health care workers and long-term care facility residents are the priority populations currently.

As of Tuesday’s report, 200,130 people have received one dose and 38,258 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.

According to the figures available Tuesday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone: 475

  • Chippewa: 624

  • Kandiyohi: 1,572

  • Lac qui Parle: 462

  • Meeker: 787

  • Pope: 631

  • Redwood: 510

  • Renville: 882

  • Stearns: 5,194

  • Swift: 392

  • Yellow Medicine: 784

The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
