WILLMAR — Eight area counties saw increases in the number of new cases of COVID-19, but there were no new deaths reported in the 11-county area in Friday’s statewide report.
Stearns County reported 16 new cases overall; Kandiyohi County reported eight new cases; Renville County reported seven new cases; Pope County had six; Swift County had three new cases; and Big Stone, Chippewa and Meeker counties each reported one new case.
Lac qui Parle, Redwood and Yellow Medicine counties reported no new cases.
Statewide there were 1,156 newly reported cases Friday.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 482,978.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 37,628 of them are health care workers.
There were 12 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Friday's state report, for a current total of 6,462 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,046, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,351 of the people who died were 70 or older.
The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
Big Stone County: 513 cases; 3 deaths
Chippewa County: 1,358 cases; 35 deaths
Kandiyohi County: 5,782 cases; 74 deaths
Lac qui Parle County: 682 cases; 16 deaths
Meeker County: 2,066 cases; 34 deaths
Pope County: 799 cases; 5 deaths
Redwood County: 1,464 cases; 27 deaths
Renville County: 1,487 cases; 40 deaths
Stearns County: 18,711 cases; 200 deaths
Swift County: 876 cases; 18 deaths
Yellow Medicine County: 976 cases; 17 deaths
The state now also reports vaccine administration numbers. As of Friday, the vaccine data webpage shows that 804,716 people have received one dose and 405,992 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.
According to the figures available Friday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 1,294
Lac qui Parle: 1,791
Yellow Medicine: 2,300
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but there is a delay between a vaccine being given and when it is reported.
