WILLMAR — Seven area counties saw increases in the number of new cases of COVID-19 and one new death in the 11-county area in Sunday’s statewide report.
Stearns County reported 20 new cases overall; Kandiyohi County reported six new cases; Chippewa County reported four new cases; Renville County reported three new cases; Redwood County report two new cases; Swift and Lac qui Parle counties each reported one new case.
Big Stone, Pope, Meeker and Yellow Medicine counties all reported no new cases.
The death in Stearns County was in the 95-99 age range.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 484,594.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 37,768 of them are health care workers.
There were eight additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Sunday's state report, for a current total of 6,483 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,055, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,366 of the people who died were 70 or older.
The information was included in the latest Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
Big Stone County: 516 cases; 3 deaths
Chippewa County: 1,363 cases; 35 deaths
Kandiyohi County: 5,790 cases; 74 deaths
Lac qui Parle County: 683 cases; 16 deaths
Meeker County: 2,069 cases; 34 deaths
Pope County: 802 cases; 5 deaths
Redwood County: 1,467 cases; 27 deaths
Renville County: 1,493 cases; 40 deaths
Stearns County: 18,714 cases; 201 deaths
Swift County: 880 cases; 18 deaths
Yellow Medicine County: 976 cases; 17 deaths
The state now also reports vaccine administration numbers. As of Sunday, the vaccine data webpage shows that 878,346 people have received one dose and 452,562 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.
According to the figures available Friday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 1,417
Lac qui Parle: 1,877
Yellow Medicine: 2,534
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but there is a delay between a vaccine being given and when it is reported.
