WILLMAR — One death and 92 new COVID-19 cases in the area were reported in Friday's state update from the Minnesota Department of Health.
The death of the person in the 80-84 age range was reported in Meeker County.
The total of new cases is higher than most recent daily totals. Nearly half the new cases, 41, were reported in Stearns County. The 10 other counties tracked by the West Central Tribune all reported new cases, too.
Kandiyohi County reported 14 new cases. Other counties reported new cases in single digits — nine in Renville County; seven in Pope County; five each in Chippewa, Redwood and Yellow Medicine counties; two each in Lac qui Parle and Meeker counties; and one each in Big Stone and Swift counties.
Statewide there were 1,449 newly reported cases overall.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 502,893.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 38,656 of them have been among health care workers.
There were nine additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 6,771 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,247, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,612 of the people who have died were 70 or older.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
- Big Stone County: 533 cases; 4 deaths
- Chippewa County: 1,406 cases; 35 deaths
Kandiyohi County: 5,932cases; 78 deaths
- Lac qui Parle County: 704 cases; 17 deaths
- Meeker County: 2,115 cases; 35 deaths
- Pope County: 868 cases; 6 deaths
- Redwood County: 1,503 cases; 34 deaths
- Renville County: 1,569 cases; 41 deaths
- Stearns County: 19,211 cases; 208 deaths
- Swift County: 905 cases; 18 deaths
- Yellow Medicine County: 1,005 cases; 17 deaths
The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public but is being targeted to priority populations.
As of Friday’s report, 1,337,892 people have received one dose and 788,495 have completed the vaccine series statewide.
According to the figures available Friday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:
Big Stone: 1,838
Lac qui Parle: 2,388
Yellow Medicine: 3,052
The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
