WILLMAR — One death and 106 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the area in Saturday's state update.

The person who died was from Chippewa County in the 75-79 age category.

Stearns County had 65 new cases, the largest number reported by the 11 counties followed by the West Central Tribune.

All other counties had new case totals in the single digits.

Kandiyohi County reported eight new cases, and Meeker County reported seven. Big Stone County and Pope County each reported five new cases.

Swift County and Yellow Medicine County each reported four new cases, and Renville County reported three

Chippewa County and Lac qui Parle County each reported two new cases. One new case was reported in Redwood County.

Statewide there were 2,104 newly reported cases overall.

That brings the state's cumulative total cases to 566,687.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 40,951 of them have been among health care workers.

There were eight additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 7,072 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,348, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,820 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

  • Big Stone County: 584 cases; 4 deaths
  • Chippewa County: 1,483 cases; 38 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 6,363 cases; 81 deaths
  • Lac qui Parle County: 745 cases; 22 deaths
  • Meeker County: 2,430 cases; 37 deaths
  • Pope County: 1,048 cases; 6 deaths
  • Redwood County: 1,676 cases; 35 deaths
  • Renville County: 1,739 cases; 43 deaths
  • Stearns County: 21,416 cases; 219 deaths
  • Swift County: 1,015 cases; 18 deaths
  • Yellow Medicine County: 1,125 cases; 20 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. As of Saturday’s report, 2,407,294 people have received at least one dose and 1,745,337 have completed the vaccine series statewide.

The percent of eligible people — those age 16 and over — who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties ranges from 42 percent of residents in Meeker County to 64 percent in Big Stone County. To date, 47% of residents age 16 and over in Kandiyohi County have had at least one dose of the vaccine.

According to the figures available Saturday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone: 2,612

  • Chippewa: 4,649

  • Kandiyohi: 15,557

  • Lac qui Parle: 3,008

  • Meeker: 7,704

  • Pope: 4,662

  • Redwood: 5,549

  • Renville: 5,769

  • Stearns: 59,878

  • Swift: 4,062

  • Yellow Medicine: 4,220

The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
