WILLMAR — One death and 98 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in west central Minnesota counties in Sunday's state update.

Among the 11 counties tracked by the West Central Tribune, Stearns County reported the most new cases with 56.

Big Stone County and Yellow Medicine County reported no new cases in the Sunday report.

Kandiyohi County reported 12 new cases, and Meeker County reported 10. Meeker County also had a newly reported COVID-19 death of a person between age 95 and 99.

Other counties reported new cases in the single digits — Renville County, seven cases; Pope County, five cases; Swift County, three cases; Chippewa County, two cases; Redwood County, two cases; Lac qui Parle County, one case.

Statewide there were 1,569 newly reported cases overall.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 568,243.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 41,002 of them have been among health care workers.

There were seven additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 7,079 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,353, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,826 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

  • Big Stone County: 584 cases; 4 deaths
  • Chippewa County: 1,485 cases; 38 deaths
  • Kandiyohi County: 6,375 cases; 81 deaths
  • Lac qui Parle County: 746 cases; 22 deaths
  • Meeker County: 2,440 cases; 38 deaths
  • Pope County: 1,053 cases; 6 deaths
  • Redwood County: 1,678 cases; 35 deaths
  • Renville County: 1,747 cases; 43 deaths
  • Stearns County: 21,474 cases; 219 deaths
  • Swift County: 1,018 cases; 18 deaths
  • Yellow Medicine County: 1,126 cases; 20 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers.

As of Sunday’s report, 2,441,621 people have received at least one dose and 1,788,107 have completed the two-shot vaccine series statewide.

The percent of eligible people — those age 16 and over — who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties ranges from 43% of residents in Meeker County to 64% in Big Stone County. To date, 47% of residents age 16 and over in Kandiyohi County have had at least one dose of the vaccine.

According to the figures available Sunday, the number of individuals who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties includes:

  • Big Stone: 2,612

  • Chippewa: 4,662

  • Kandiyohi: 15,672

  • Lac qui Parle: 3,009

  • Meeker: 7,733

  • Pope: 4,698

  • Redwood: 5,564

  • Renville: 5,793

  • Stearns: 60,517

  • Swift: 4,079

  • Yellow Medicine: 4,243

The vaccine data web page is updated at 11 a.m. daily, but it can take up to 48 hours for data to be reported to the state and processed.
