COVID-19 total in Kandiyohi County now at 211

WILLMAR — Kandiyohi County now has 211 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The new number was released in the Minnesota Department of Health daily situation update , released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released Wednesday are current as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The daily case load in Kandiyohi County rose 11 over Tuesday's total. There is still only one death in Kandiyohi County and none in surrounding counties.

Cases are also increasing in other area counties, though at a much slower rate than in Kandiyohi County. Chippewa is now reporting 4 cases, up from 3 on Tuesday. Meeker now sits at 18, up one, and Renville County now totals 6 positive cases, also up one.

Lac qui Parle, Swift and Yellow Medicine counties did not see an increase in positive cases.

Minnesota now has 8,579 positive cases, up 728, the greatest single day increase so far. Out of those positive cases, 1,146 are health care workers.

Tuesday was also the deadliest day so far, with 30 reported deaths, bringing the total to 485. Most of the deaths, 391, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Approximately 95 percent of fatalities have been older than 60 years old, with 80 percent having been 70 years or older. The median age is 83.

There are 443 COVID patients currently in hospitals, 180 of them being treated in ICUs.

Minnesota Department of Health is also reporting that 5,005 of the state's reported positive cases no longer need to be isolated. Subtracting the 485 deaths that are included in that number, 4,520 people who tested positive have recovered.
