WILLMAR — West central Minnesota reported 238 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, the majority in Stearns County, according to the Minnesota Department of Health daily situation updates.
No new deaths in the region were reported over the weekend.
The state reported nine deaths and 2,971 cases over the two days.
Over the weekend, Stearns County reported a total of 125 new cases; Kandiyohi County reported 20 new cases; Pope County reported 19 new cases; Meeker County reported 21 new cases; Redwood, Renville and Yellow Medicine counties each reported 11 new cases; Swift County reported nine new cases; Lac qui Parle County reported five new cases; Big Stone County reported four new cases; and Chippewa County reported a total of two.

With the state's newly reported 2,971 cases, the cumulative number of cases rises to 515,058.
Of the cumulative number of cases, 39,093 of them have been among health care workers.
The state’s current total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is now at 6,830. Most of the deaths, 4,268, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,655 of the people who died were 70 or older.
The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health , released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:
Big Stone County: 542 cases; 4 deaths
Chippewa County: 1,419 cases; 35 deaths
Kandiyohi County: 6,013 cases; 79 deaths
Lac qui Parle County: 714 cases; 21 deaths
Meeker County: 2,179 cases; 36 deaths
Pope County: 922 cases; 6 deaths
Redwood County: 1,546 cases; 34 deaths
Renville County: 1,608 cases; 43 deaths
Stearns County: 19,725 cases; 209 deaths
Swift County: 933 cases; 18 deaths
Yellow Medicine County: 1,031 cases; 17 deaths
The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine has so far been prioritized for targeted groups. Starting March 30, all Minnesotans age 16 and older are eligible, although the state has warned that demand will outpace supply in the immediate future.
As of Sunday's report, 1,590,826 people have received at lease one dose and 976,061 have completed the vaccine series statewide.
