WILLMAR — During a long basketball season, there's often at least one game where a senior takes control and reminds the home fans what they'll miss next season.

Tuesday night was that kind of night for Willmar's Carly Wedel.

The senior center scored a game-high 22 points and swatted eight shots to power Willmar past Fergus Falls 65-50 in a key Central Lakes Conference battle.

Willmar now moves to 8-2 (5-0 CLC) and hands Fergus Falls just their third loss of the season.

The Cardinals came out of the gates strong and rolled to a 33-23 halftime score behind strong shooting and the overwhelming defense Willmar is now known for. The Otters kept things close in the second half but Willmar kept the lead to earn their third win in a row.

Wedel's counting numbers were certainly impressive and she did so in an efficient manner, She shot 60 percent from the field and pulled down six rebounds, tied for most on the team with Sadie Raitz, in addition to her eight blocks.

Abby Berskow put up a strong night, too, with 11 points and four steals, causing issues for Otter guards all night.
