OLIVIA — More than 150 small painted rocks, including some with inspirational messages, have been hidden in five Renville County parks this summer. Finders are asked to photograph the rocks, post it to the park's Facebook page and leave the rock for someone else to find.
It's all part of an effort to spread a little kindness, according to the Renville County Economic Development Authority and the Renville County Parks Department, which are sponsoring the rock-solid treasure hunt for people who visit the county’s parks.
The rocks have been hidden throughout Beaver Falls, Birch Coulee, Mack Lake, Skalbekken and Vicksburg county parks.
When a painted rock is discovered, the finder is asked to take a picture of it and post the photo to Facebook by tagging @RenCoParks.
People are encouraged to leave the rock for others to find or replace it with a painted rock of their own.
The goal is not to find and keep the rocks, but to continue placing them for others to discover, according to organizers, who also thanked the Cairo Sharpshooters 4-H Club for helping to paint and hide the rocks in the parks.
Those who create a replacement rock are asked to write @RenCoParks on the back to continue the project.
