SPICER — Anglers in west central Minnesota will have an opportunity to comment on and learn about proposed special regulations at open houses scheduled October 12 in Litchfield and October 13 in Spicer.

Lake Ripley, Minnie-Belle sunfish bag limits

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is proposing to reduce the daily limits for sunfish on Lake Ripley and Lake Minnie-Belle in Meeker County from 20 to 5.

The DNR’s fisheries staff will hold an in-person open house on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Meeker County Courthouse Community Room, 325 North Sibley Ave. in Litchfield. The courthouse back door facing the parking lot will be unlocked for the meeting.

If adopted, the change would go into effect March 1, 2022.

George Lake crappie limit

The DNR is proposing to reduce the daily bag limit for black crappies from 10 to 5. Sunfish daily limits were reduced to 5 in 2021 as part of the Quality Sunfish Initiative.

The DNR fisheries staff will hold an an-person open house on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Spicer DNR area office, 164 County Road 8 NE, Spicer.

If adopted, the change would go into effect March 1, 2022.

Anglers also have opportunities to comment on the proposed changes at a statewide open house scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. at the DNR Central Office, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul.

Comments can also be made online by visiting mndnr.gov/sunfish and taking the online survey.
