Northwoods League: Great Plains take win in All-Star game

Great Plains All-Stars defeat Great Lakes All-Stars 7-3 on Tuesday

Despite being outhit 10-8, the Great Plains All-Stars scored runs in six different innings to beat the Great Lakes All-Stars in the Northwoods League All-Star Game at ISG Field in Mankato.

St. Cloud Rox infielder Otto Kemp went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth. He scored two runs and had an RBI in the victory. The Mankato MoonDogs’ Blake Reilly got the start for the Great Plains while St. Cloud’s Hunter Dollander got the win after tossing a scoreless second.

The Great Lakes’ top hitter was Jackson Loftin. An infielder for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, Loftin went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. The starting pitcher was Fond du Lac’s Carlson Reed. Taking the loss was the Wisconsin Woodchucks’ Nate Madej.

The Willmar Stingers had three All-Star selections, with none of them playing on Tuesday. Willmar’s All-Stars were: second baseman Reid Homan (.349 average, 19 RBI, 15 runs); right-handed pitcher Ryan Watson (3-1, 1.66 ERA, 43 strikeouts); and right-handed pitcher Jacob Webb (0-1, 7 saves, 29 strikeouts) ERA. Webb was selected in the 14th round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

The Stingers resume the season on Thursday against the Minnesota Mud Puppies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
