Janet L. Hockenberry

Janet L. Hockenberry, 80 of Spicer, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Janet Lee Hockenberry was born on May 29, 1937 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Harold and Anna (Stalder) Marburger. She grew up in Burlington Junction, MO, King City, MO, Logan, IA and Shenandoah, IA where she attended high school, graduating in 1955. She continued her education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. On September 14, 1958, Janet was united in marriage to Duane Hockenberry. They made their home in Omaha where she worked as a keypunch operator for Mutual of Omaha and was a homemaker. They retired and moved to Spicer in 2003 and lived near Nest Lake.

Janet was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer where she served as a deacon, and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Omaha where she taught Sunday School and sang in choir. She was also a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, knitting and fishing with Duane.

Janet is survived by sister-in-law, Doris Swank of Shenandoah, IA and other relative and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Duane and daughter, Jody.
