Rose H. Bestland, 81, of New London died Friday, November 9, 2018, at her home near New London. Her funeral service was held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial was at Lebanon Cemetery in New London. www.hahf.org Rose Hulda Bestland was born on July 10, 1937, in Springfield, MN, the daughter of Clifford and Alice (Brown) Colburn. Rose grew up in Comfrey where she attended Comfrey Elementary School and went on to graduate from Comfrey High School with the Class of 1955. On March 23, 1957, Rose was united in marriage to Lyle Bestland, in Springfield. This union was blessed with a son and two daughters. Rose and Lyle made their home in Augsburg, Germany from 1957-1958, they then moved back to the family farm in Hanley Falls where they lived and farmed until 1961, when they moved to Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis for two years then they moved to Boyd. They lived in Boyd until 1968 when they moved to Priam. Rose and Lyle lived in Priam for twenty years moving to their current home on Lake Andrew in 1988. Rose worked at the Willmar Nursing Home as the Activities Director retiring in 1997.
Rose was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in New London. She and Lyle enjoyed traveling; they made it to 49 states only missing Hawaii and visited many countries abroad. Rose loved going to watch her family play in sporting events, she enjoyed working in her flower garden, was locally famous for her potato salad, and she enjoyed feeding up to 30-35 Hummingbirds at a time, using her 4 feeders. She used over 35 pounds of sugar to make her own nectar throughout the summer. Rose also loved hosting friends, neighbors, and family at their home. Rose H. Bestland died on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the age of 81. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lyle; children, Jeffery (Lori) of Monticello, Brenda (Erik) Arne of Little Falls, and Becky (Jeffrey) Behm of Raymond; grandchildren: Shane (Heather) Arne, Brett (Jenny) Arne, Erin (Matt) Barr, Trent (Joni) Bestland, Cameron Behm, Cory (Benita) Behm, and Connor Bestland; and great-grandchildren: Brandon, Caleik, Emery, Ryker, Auggie, Railyn, Lauryn, Jackson, Jordyn, and Landon. She is also survived by her brother, Andrew (Jeanette) Colburn; sister, Carol (Roger) Kemp; sister-in-law, Virginia Stech; and brother-in-law, Ken Richert. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gladys (Merlyn) Tews and Ellen Richert; sister-in-law, Pearl (Ervin) Eye; and her brother-in-law, Ted Stech.
