Bruce Lenz

Bruce Lenz, age 67, of Newport News, VA, died Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, VA. Dirks-Blem Funeral Home of Renville will be handling the arrangements and a memorial service is pending for a later date.

Bruce Orville Lenz was born April 18, 1953, to Orville and Marjorie (Standfuss) Lenz, at the Olivia Hospital in Olivia, MN. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville where he was baptized and confirmed. Bruce graduated from Renville Public School in 1971. Following graduation he attended Willmar Vocational School from 1971 -1973 for Auto Mechanics. While attending vocational school he met and married Janelle Harris in February of 1973. In February of 1973, Bruce enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard numerous ships until his retirement from the Navy on September 28, 1990. In October of 1990, Bruce joined the Military Sealift Command as a civilian mariner with long deployments out to sea until he retired on January 30, 2016. He sailed the seas for most of his life.

Bruce and Janelle were blessed with one son, Andrew. After his divorce from Janelle, he was married to Irene Tenerowicz to which this marriage they were blessed with 2 children. A son, Daniel and daughter, Erica. Later Irene and Bruce divorced and Bruce married, Lynetta Moore in 1996 until her passing in 2014.

Bruce spent most of his life in the Norfolk Virginia area. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and hunting.

Bruce is survived by his 3 children: Andrew Lenz of Oakdale, MN, Daniel (and Mara) Lenz of Gloucester, VA, and Erica (and AJ) Williams of Portsmouth, VA. Three grandchildren: Kolby Lenz, Blakely Lenz, and Owen Williams. His mother, Marjorie Lenz of Willmar. One brother, Allen Lenz of Barnesville, MN, and sisters, Carol (and Jerry) Somerville of Raymond, and Julie (and Loren) Serbus of Olivia. Many nieces and nephews. Along with his faithful companion, Lola, his yellow lab. He is preceded in death by wife, Lynetta, his father Orville Lenz, grandparents Edward and Sophia Lenz, and William and Hulda Standfuss.
