Edith Gerdes

Edith Gerdes, age 88, of Willmar, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.

A private service will be held at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.

Edith Gerdes was born on August 21, 1932, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Grace (Brummer) Frieborg. She grew up and received her education in country schools. The family moved to Raymond in 1957 till 1982 when they moved to Willmar. Where she resided with her son Brian. Edith was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was active in women’s circles. She enjoyed all the wonderful friendships made through her church. She enjoyed embroidery, flowers, listening to old country music and decorating her home.

She is survived by her five children, Sandy (and LeRoy) Christensen of Atwater; Darrel Gerdes of Willmar, Duane (and Sherrie) Gerdes of Ramsey, Brian Gerdes of Atwater and Paul Gerdes of Willmar; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Grace Carlson of Willmar and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Gerdes of Clara City and Dorothy Hammen of California, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Peter and Bennie; two sisters, Annie (and Elmer) Grussing and Florence (and Clarence) Hammen and a brother-in-law, Marlyn Carlson.
