Evelyn L. Larson


Evelyn L. Larson went to be with her Lord on September 29, 2021, in El Paso, TX. She was born on October 9, 1924, in Kandiyohi County, MN, to Carl J. and Minda E. (Bergeson) Lovander. She was baptized and  confirmed at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, where her great-grandparents, Syvert Olson and Birgita Dengrud Olson were founding members. 

She worked in Willmar as a nanny for the Christianson family, and later at the Town Talk Bakery. On June 25, 1947, She was united in marriage to Aldon C. Anderson, at Eagle Lake Lutheran. They operated their family farm south of Svea until Aldon’s death in 1975. 

Evelyn served as the Svea Postmaster and managed the Svea Co-op Store before becoming the Postmaster in Blomkest. She was an active member of Svea Ev. Lutheran Church, where her children were baptized and confirmed, and after marrying John O. Larson in 1978, Grace Lutheran Church. She loved singing, cooking and baking. She w as an active member of the Sons of Norway, the Lions Auxilliary, Sweet Adelaine’s, the Willmar Senior Citizens, and a  “pioneer” owner at Independence Place. She moved to El Paso, TX, in 2010 and became an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She sewed Christmas Pageant costumes, gave lessons on making lefse, and often served dinner for the Wednesday evening confirmation classes. 

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Aldon C. Anderson, her sister Mildred C. (Lovander) Thorpe and brother-in law Selmer Thorpe, her second husband John O. Larson, and life-long friend “Tess” (Knudsen) Hoffer. Evelyn is survived by her son Galen A. Anderson (Bonnie), her daughter Lenae C. Anderson Rasmussen (John H. G.), nephews Dennis Thorpe (Darlene) and James Thorpe (Pam), grandsons Aaron E. Thacker (Jamie), Geoffrey A. Anderson (Becka), Erick L. Anderson, and granddaughter Laura C. McLaughlin, eight great-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Evelyn was a loving mother, an extraordinary cook, and a kind and wonderful friend to all. She will be missed greatly but she is at peace with Christ, and we will be reunited when He comes again. Her funeral will be held at Svea Lutheran Church, at 11:00 AM, on Wed. Nov. 24, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6400 Pino Real Dr., El Paso, TX 79912.
