Gary C. Larson


Gary C. Larson, age 86, of rural Atwater, passed away following an extended illness under hospice care and the loving care of his family on Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2020.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a private family interment will be held at Rosendale United Methodist Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rice Hospice, Atwater Area Block Nursing Program or Rosendale United Methodist Cemetery Association are preferred. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.

Gary Channing Larson was born on May 18, 1933, on the family farm in Lake Elizabeth Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of E. Arvid and Euphremia (Anderson) Larson. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Rosendale United Methodist Church. He graduated from Atwater High School in 1951 and attended the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota.

On December 27, 1958, Gary was united in marriage to Marilyn Summerlet at the Lake Lillian Methodist Church. He spent his entire life on the farm his father homesteaded. Gary enjoyed farming, tilling the land and harvesting the crop in the fall. Gary served on the Lake Lillian Elevator Board, the Lake Elizabeth Township Board and the West Central Mutual Insurance Board for many years.

Gary enjoyed spending time at the lake cabin with his family, friends, children and grandchildren. His hobbies included woodworking, fixing things, feeding the animals and telling stories. Gary will be best remembered for his sense of humor and always having a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Marilyn; three children, Mark (and Cleone) Larson of Atwater, Kurt (and Maribeth) Larson of Lakeville and Janelle (and David) Tembrock of Lino Lakes; seven grandchildren, Tyler (and Jessica) Larson of Mapleton, Megan Larson of Lakeville, Erick (and Brittany) Larson of Fargo, ND, Micah Larson (and Jayme Sczublewski) of Willmar, Ryan (and Morgan) Larson of Hutchinson, Carson Tembrock and Joelle Tembrock, both of Lino Lakes; and one great grandson, Kayson, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arlie, Lloyd and Darwin; and two sisters, Geneva and Lorraine.
