Glennis R. TerWisscha


Glennis R. TerWisscha, age 62, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, August 30, at her residence from natural causes.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

Glennis Renae TerWisscha was born on September 6, 1958, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Lester and Wilmine (Zimmer) TerWisscha. She grew up a farm girl near Clara City and was a great helper for her dad and mom. She was confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church and graduated from Clara City High School in 1976. Her first employment was at Citizens National Bank in Willmar. She was a vital part of the Willmar Eight movement. On November 23, 1985, Glennis was united in marriage to James Lano and they made their home in St. Paul. She started working as a representative for the Minnesota School Employees Association and later with the Twin Cities Neighborhood Housing Service in St. Paul. Most recently, Glennis was a director for Northside Neighborhood Housing Service in Minneapolis. Glennis had a heart for the poor and disadvantaged and made her career advocating for them.

She is survived by her parents; Lester and Wilmine TerWisscha of Clara City; three siblings, Vicky (and Jim) Hinrichs of Clara City, Gary (and Vicky) TerWisscha of Spicer and Denise (and Glen) Gulbranson of Prinsburg; one step-daughter, Jessica and a step-granddaughter, McKenzie, besides many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2018 and her grandparents.
