BANGOR - Gwendolyn Roeder (nee Ward) was born in Starbuck, Minnesota, to Alyce and Lyman Ward. Gwen graduated from New London High School in 1953 as the class’ Salutatorian. A lifelong educator, Mrs. Roeder taught in Long Beach, CA, Minneapolis, Rochester and New London, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Jerry Roeder in 1971, and the couple welcomed daughter Amy in 1973. Gwendolyn and Jerry made their home in New London, MN, until Jerry’s death in 2017, when Gwen relocated to Bangor. Gwen was a passionate reader, enthusiastic traveler, loving parent and grandparent. No student was ever without needed items in her class because she never hesitated to buy supplies, snacks or lunches for her students with her own money. At a memorial service in Bangor, school supplies were collected in her name and immediately distributed to students and families in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alyce and Lyman; and her husband, Jerry. She is survived by daughter, Amy (Eric); and grandsons, Evan and Kurtis. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her memory to the Willmar Public Library, 410 5th St. SW Willmar, MN. Per Gwen’s request, there will be no funeral, but a memorial gathering will be held at Goat Ridge Brewery in New London on September 1 from noon to three pm. All are welcome.
