Jim Ziehl


James DeWayne “Jim” Ziehl, age 76, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at University Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. He was born July 29, 1945 in Willmar, Minnesota, a son of the late Ervin Adolph and Marian Ann (Bestge) Ziehl.

On July 31, 1965 in Raymond, Minnesota, he was united in marriage to Diane Ellen Schueler. Together they shared fifty-six years of marriage.

Jim was raised in Minnesota and was a graduate of Raymond High School and received a teaching degree from St. Cloud State University. He retired from the Minnesota Correctional Facility in 2000 after twenty-five years of service as a vocational instructor. Jim and Diane began vacationing at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri in their early 20’s. Their dream of becoming permanent residents at the lake became reality after his retirement. He enjoyed all the lake had to offer, especially boating and water skiing. Jim also enjoyed tinkering on engines.

He was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach, Missouri. He was also a member of the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Ziehl of the home; three daughters, Julie Anderson and husband Randy of Altus, Oklahoma, Jodi Ziehl of Angleton, Texas and Jill LaBelle of Linn Creek, Missouri; six grandchildren, Ruth Jones and husband Tim, Jamie Wroge and husband Steven, Reanna Anderson, Emma Watson, Zachary Watson and Kylie LaBelle; three great-grandchildren, Riley Jones, A.J. Jones and Betty Wroge; a brother, Gary Ziehl and wife Nora of Raymond, Minnesota and Dawn Ashburn and husband David of Hutchinson, Minnesota and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Kent Memorial Lutheran Church. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Entombment will be at the church columbarium.
