Karl “Bill” W. Gossman

Karl William “Bill” Gossman, 67 of New London, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at his home in New London.
A memorial will be placed from 1-5:30 pm. Sunday, June 7, 2020 at the New London Fire Hall stage, 20 Central Av W. New London, for friends and family to place a tribute, memorial or share a memory. A procession through New London will be leaving the stage at 5:30 p.m. for the New London Spicer High School where a 6:00 p.m. memorial service will be held outside the school. People will be asked to remain in their vehicles if possible or observe proper social distancing. Services will be broadcast over the radio and streamed on the funeral home website at www.hafh.org . Funeral arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to any of the following organization: Land Stewardship Project, Carris Health Rice Hospice or SMAC (Southwest Minnesota Arts Council).
Karl William Gossman was born on February 20, 1953 in St. Paul, the son of Karl Sr. and Joyce (Miller) Gossman. He grew up in Farmersburg, Iowa and Rochester, Minnesota and attended Mayo High School graduating in 1972. He continued his education at Mankato State University and U.W. River Falls. He moved to Denmark, later Swaziland and returned to Lyngby, Denmark where he met Janne Mortensen. They were later married in Sporup Kirk, Denmark on June 23, 1990. They made their home in New London where Bill was self-employed as a potter. Bill served as Mayor of New London from 2009-2020.
Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janne; children, Siri Gossman of New London, Jais (Bethany) Lacktorin of Brooten and Leah Gossman of Minneapolis; brothers, Jeff Cahill and David Gossman; mother-in-law, Jytte Mortensen, brothers-in-law, Claus and Jens Mortensen of Denmark and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Herve Mortensen.
