Marlin Niss

Marlin K. Niss, 74, of Willmar, died Saturday, October 23rd at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud, after an 18-month battle with Glioblastoma. His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, October 30th at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to his service. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Marlin Keith Niss was born October 5, 1947, to LeRoy and Ethyl (Hartman) Niss in Fairmont. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. Marlin attended country school until the 6th grade then graduated from Truman High School in 1965. He furthered his education at Mankato State University where he studied Psychology and Business, graduating in 1969. On October 21, 1967, Marlin was united in marriage to Cheryl Wille at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. They moved to Esterville, IA, where Marlin started selling feed. He continued to sell feed and eventually became a feed sales manager. They eventually moved to Willmar where they made their home. Marlin and Cheryl became members at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Marlin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He traveled to Canada to fish, elk hunted in Colorado, and deer hunted in Spring Valley. He enjoyed taking his family on trips to Florida and California.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children: Cari Jo Niss and Jason Niss; grandchildren: Cassie Ritsche, Adam Ritsche, and Andrew Klucas. He is also survived by his siblings: Darwin (Sharon) Niss, Barb (Lee) Groehler and Jerome (Kim) Niss; brothers-in-law: Keith (Dawn) Kellen, Alan (Peggy) Wille, Jerome (Laurie) Wille, Curt (Denise) Wille and Wayne (Laura) Wille; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sharon Kellen.
