Mrs. Benita Manahan Russell

Mrs. Benita Manahan Russell, age 75, succumbed to cancer peacefully, at home, in Pennock, MN on September 16, 2020. Benita was born in Rochester, MN on September 28, 1945 to Cyril and Madeleine Manahan. She graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester, MN and the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN. and received a Master’s Degree in Science from Winona State University. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Rochester and Willmar School Districts. Benita married Dale Russell, of Austin, MN on July 6, 1984. Benita enjoyed travelling, crocheting, cross stitch, gardening, and spending time with her grand children. Benita was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar, MN.

Benita is survived by her husband, Dale; her two children, Peter and Heather Russell; Her five grand children, Aidan, Ava, Raegan, Colt, and Isabelle. She is also survived by her siblings John (Kathy), Patrick (Janice), Mary Margaret, Fr. Thomas, Fr. Christopher, and Bill (Tricia). She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Anne and Sr. Kathleen.

A memorial service to celebrate Benita’s life is planned for a later date to be announced by the family.

At the time of the memorial, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester, MN.
