BENSON - Susan Ann Miller of Benson passed away on Friday, November 8th, at the Chippewa County Hospital located in Montevideo Minnesota. She was surrounded by family and friends when she passed and was taken by the Lord. Susan was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer that had spread to her liver and adrenal glands. Susan fought hard with grace, courage, and dignity but ultimately lost the battle at 4:45 pm. Susan was born in Minneapolis, MN on 01/30/1962 and grew up in Benson MN. She was the beloved daughter of Frank Doll and Alice Berres, the latter of whom was present as she passed. Susan was an intelligent woman who graduated from Benson High School. After graduating, Susan enrolled into the United States Military where she achieved the rank of specialist and was a qualified and trained sniper. After suffering a foot injury in North Carolina, that forced her early departure from the military service, she returned to her hometown and became a waitress at the Clover Leaf where she would meet her eventual husband Michael Allen Miller whom she wed on February 19th 1987, and was blessed with 6 children (Kevin Miller, Kenny Miller, Kathleen Miller, Kasey Miller, Kelsey Miller, Kimberly Pederson) all of whom were present during her passing. Not being one to settle for the life of a housewife, yearning for something more and having more love to give outside of her home, Susan became a head start aid at the Benson High School where she took care of many children that she treated like her own, assisted in caring for the deceased at the local funeral home and enrolled in night classes at Ridgewater college to become a nurse. She graduated and began caring for elderly patients at Bethesda retirement home in Willmar, MN, until she was unable to continue to do so. Far from giving up on a working life Susan joined her husband Michael, and together they worked as truckers who visited the majority of the 50 US states. With her trucking days over, Susan returned home with her husband for the retirement stage of their lives. In her free time Susan would enjoy doing puzzles, writing online reviews for businesses she visited, winning drawings at Prairie’s Edge Casino, local sight-seeing, charity work with the local food shelf and Holocaust victims (the latter of which she donated monthly to), going for walks where she would often find rocks for her daughter Kelsey (an avid collector), shop for presents to give to her grandchild Fiona, of whom her eldest daughter Kathleen is the mother of, and speak highly of her youngest daughter Kimberly who has followed her into the medical field along with her two sisters. Even in retirement, Susan would still find purposeful work to keep her busy via attending her eldest sons (Kevin) military events, drive her youngest son (Kasey) to the Schwan’s Ice Cream Plant in Marshall, and spending time with her son Kenny. Susan was often described by family and friends as fiery, passionate, stubborn, smart and caring. Her unique mix of qualities made her a beloved friend and family member that will never be forgotten. Susan left this world as a fighter and is now at peace with her brother (Todd Doll), father (Frank Doll), and her stepfather (Matthew Berres) where she awaits her mother, siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Though she has passed her spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew her, and it is without doubt that she continues to watch over her surviving family and friends just as she did in life. She will be missed by many but never forgotten. A memorial is being held on the 27 of November from 5-9 at 231 3rd St Balaton MN. A permanent memorial gravestone will be erected in her honor in Clontarf MN.
