In Memory of Kathleen Louise Kleven Passed: May 23, 2021 Born: May 17, 1955 Resided in: Minneapolis, MN Kathleen Louise Kleven, age 66, of Minneapolis passed away on May 23, 2021, in her apartment while on Hospice Care. She spent her last days there with a dear friend and her loving cat Sammy. Kathy was born on May 17, 1955, in Willmar, MN to Wallace and Nellie Mae Kleven. She grew up on a dairy farm east of Willmar with one brother and 2 sisters. Kathy loved the farm especially the horses where she had a passion for riding. She attended Goldenrod, a country schoolhouse. As a member of 4-H she enjoyed showing her horse at the county fair. Kathy loved swimming and spent many days at the family cabin on Eagle Lake and later as a teen enjoyed Green Lake. In 1973 Kathy graduated from Willmar Senior High School then attended Willmar Junior College that next Fall. After one year in Willmar Kathy moved to Tucson, Arizona with friends and attended Pima Community College and onto U of Arizona at Tucson, where she studied art. Kathy was an incredible artist. In 1976 Kathy moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and remained there for the rest of her life. She loved Arizona, however, South Minneapolis was her “hood” as she called it. She enjoyed the action, music and friendships she made in the Uptown area. Kathy worked at various record shops until going back to school at the Aveda Institute and became a hairstylist where she loved to chat with clients. Kathy married Michael Wright in 2007 after being a care giver to him for several years. An avid crossword fanatic Kathy was a free-spirited woman with a quick wit, soft heart and great sense of humor. Every birthday and holiday, one could expect a call from Kathy wishing them the best. She loved bike riding, swimming, listening and dancing to music on her record player. Her knowledge of music was varied and extensive. Kathy was also extremely tenacious and kept a positive attitude and good fight until the very end. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Nellie Kleven and husband Michael Wright. She is survived by brother Dan Kleven (Deb) of Willmar, MN, sister Jodi Sandberg (Thom) of Minneapolis, MN and sister Lisa Lehrer (Eric) of Owatonna, MN; eight nieces and nephews, Eric Kleven (Kenzie), Grant Kleven (Mollie), Andrew Kleven (Stephanie), Anna Sandberg (Adam Peterson), Betsy Sandberg, Isabelle Lehrer, Jack Lehrer and Thomas Lehrer; two great nieces, Elizabeth Kleven and Nora Kleven and lastly her beloved cat Sammy. A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Kathy on Sunday, July 11, at 5 pm at the Boom Island shelter C; 724 Sibley St. NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 with a reception after in the park from 6-8 pm.
